Arvind Sawant apologizes for controversial remark

Shiv Sena's Arvind Sawant apologizes after backlash over remark on Shaina NC

Arvind Sawant, a leader of the Shiv Sena party, has faced backlash for his comment describing fellow politician Shaina NC as "imported maal" (imported goods). He stated that he never meant to insult anyone and expressed regret if his words hurt anyone's feelings. Speaking to the media, Sawant said, “I am being deliberately targeted by giving a different meaning to my statement. I have never insulted a woman in my life"

His comments created a significant controversy, prompting Shaina NC to file a complaint at the Nagpada Police Station. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Sawant for "outraging the modesty of women," citing Sections 79 and 356(2) of the Indian Penal Code. This incident has also drawn the attention of the Election Commission and the Women's Commission.
