Himanta Biswa said Rahul Gandhi's language is similar to that of Jinnah

Assam Congress took a dig at Biswa's remark on Rahul Gandhi

Assam’s largest opposition party, the Congress, has retaliated against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ‘father-son’ remark about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The state’s image has been harmed, according to the Congress, because of the chief minister’s words.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, was in the Uttarakhand yesterday to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the assembly elections. During the event, he targeted out Mr. Gandhi for demanding proof of India’s surgical strike.

He questioned, “Have we ever asked you if you are Rajiv Gandhi’s son or not?”

The Congress’s Assam branch has vehemently criticised this statement.

“Assamese are known as cultured and well-mannered people all over the world and the state is popular across the globe as a Centre of spirituality, Today all that was reduced to dust with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s deplorable remarks questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s father’s identity at an election rally in Uttarakhand. This has lowered the image of Assam’s residents in the eyes of the world,” said Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah.

“Sarma had (left Congress) and joined BJP to escape the CBI’s clutches and now he is targeting Gandhi with uncivilized and low-mannered remarks in order to escape being targeted by the RSS and BJP high command for the illegal land deals made by his family, coal won’t change its color even if it is kept dipped in milk. With his statements which shows power has gone to his head, Sarma has proved that it won’t be possible to expect high ideals and better public utterances from such a Chief Minister,” Bhupen Kumar Borah added.

Assam CM Sarma in Uttarakhand

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said on Friday that his party never sought proof that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He said this while criticising the Congress for repeatedly casting doubt on India’s surgical strikes and anti-coronavirus vaccines.

Sarma, a former Congress leader who switched sides in 2015, is campaigning for the BJP in Uttarakhand ahead of the state’s next Assembly election.

“The Congress asked for proof of surgical strikes, authenticity of vaccine. Did we ever ask proof from Rahul Gandhi of being Rajiv Gandhi’s son?” he said

Himanta Biswa Sarma compared Rahul Gandhi’s rhetoric and language to that of Mr. Jinnah before 1947. He said, “In some ways, Rahul Gandhi is a modern-day Jinnah.”
