Atishi accuses Haryana of reducing water flow to Delhi, alleges conspiracy against citizens

New Delhi: Delhi minister Atishi accused the Haryana government of reducing Delhi’s water supply and conspiring against the city's people. Despite the Supreme Court's efforts to address the issue, Atishi claimed Haryana continues to limit the water flow into the Yamuna River, reducing Delhi's share. She inspected the Wazirabad barrage and reported that the water level had dropped from 671.3 feet on June 2 to 669.7 feet on June 7.

Supreme Court's intervention and water crisis

The Supreme Court has ordered Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of surplus water to Delhi and asked Haryana to facilitate its flow. Atishi emphasized that even if Himachal Pradesh complies, Delhi’s water crisis won't improve unless Haryana stops restricting the water supply. She pointed out that Delhi relies entirely on the Yamuna for its water supply, and reduced water levels affect the city's water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla. This leads to water shortages and hardships for Delhi residents, who often have to depend on water tankers.

Atishi urged the Supreme Court to ensure that Delhi gets its rightful share of water from Haryana and the additional water from Himachal Pradesh without any obstacles. She highlighted the ongoing struggles of Delhi residents to secure enough water for their daily needs amid the summer's severe water crisis.
