PGI Doctor commits suicide

Attempted Suicide by PGI Doctor Sparks Concern: A Cry for Help

A senior resident at PGI attempted suicide, stating that he faced harassment from an Associate Professor in the Department of Hepatology. The doctor administered himself an injection, but fortunately, it was a low dosage, and he was stabilized in time. Before taking this extreme step, he left a letter accusing the faculty member of victimization.

The PGI Director, Prof Vivek Lal, has responded to the situation by forming a committee, led by Dean Academic Naresh Panda, to investigate the matter thoroughly. The committee is expected to submit its findings within 72 hours.

The victim's relatives, who reside in Ambala, took him with them. In the letter, the doctor alleged continuous harassment by the Associate Professor, who humiliated him during rounds and made personal remarks, even telling him to "go and drown somewhere."

The farewell note also includes apologies to the doctor's mother, father, sister, grandmother, and pet dog, Bruno. The doctor holds the professor responsible for driving him to the point of attempting suicide, stating that such behavior should not be tolerated at PGI.
