Avalanche warning in Himachal, North India set for rain and hailstorm

Avalanche warning issued in Himachal as North India prepares for rain and hailstorm

The Lahaul and Spiti Police in Himachal Pradesh have issued an avalanche warning for the region. According to an official advisory, there is a danger of medium-sized avalanches on steep slopes, and people should only use safe routes. The warning is in effect until 5 PM on February 28.

Weather conditions in J&K and Himachal

Recently, an avalanche hit Khandyal village in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, damaging a house. Fortunately, no one was injured. In addition, heavy snowfall and rain have been reported in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Udhampur district in J&K has been experiencing continuous rainfall for two days, and similar weather is expected until February 28.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi districts in Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy snowfall and rain. IMD experts have linked this weather to a western disturbance.

According to IMD, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected across the Western Himalayan region on February 28. Some areas in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand could experience very heavy snowfall.

Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Isolated hailstorms may also occur in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan may receive scattered rainfall, while East Uttar Pradesh could see thunderstorms and strong winds on February 28 and March 1.

In Northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are expected to receive light to moderate rain. Strong winds may also hit Assam and Meghalaya.

Rainfall expected in Southern States

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala may experience moderate rain with thunderstorms from February 28 to March 2. Some areas could see heavy rainfall. Lakshadweep is also likely to receive light to moderate rain during this period.

A fresh western disturbance is expected from March 2, bringing more rain and snowfall to Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may also receive light rain on March 3.
