In a heartbreaking incident, a double-storey building in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, collapsed early Monday morning, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to ten others. The tragic event unfolded in a town under the jurisdiction of the Fatehpur police station in Barabanki district.

Local authorities have launched a search and rescue operation, as they suspect that approximately three to four individuals might still be trapped beneath the debris. The police are working tirelessly to locate and assist any potential survivors. Initially, 12 people were rescued from the wreckage and immediately transported to a hospital for medical attention. Regrettably, two of the rescued victims succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining injured individuals continue to receive treatment at the hospital.

Multi-agency response to the tragedy

In response to the disaster, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed to the accident site to facilitate the search operation for those believed to be trapped. Furthermore, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is set to join the ongoing rescue efforts in the near future.

The incident unfolded at approximately 3:10 AM when authorities received the distressing news of the building's collapse in Barabanki. Initially, it was reported that around 19 individuals were trapped within the rubble. In response, the fire service dispatched vehicles, and local residents also rallied to assist in the rescue operations. Subsequently, it was revealed that four members of a family were not present at the time of the incident and had thus escaped harm. Of the remaining 16 individuals, 12 were successfully rescued but faced injuries. Tragically, two among them lost their lives.

Dinesh Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Barabanki, provided insights into the incident, stating, "Among the 12 people who were rescued and hospitalized, two have died." He detailed the initial response, mentioning that both fire service personnel and local residents played crucial roles in the rescue efforts.

A glimpse of the rescue operation

A video recording of the accident site emerged, depicting the dedication of police officials and SDRF members as they worked tirelessly to remove debris from the collapsed building. Onlookers anxiously watched the rescue operation unfold, their concern evident.

Barabanki is situated approximately 30 kilometers to the east of Uttar Pradesh's capital city, Lucknow.
