BCCI penalizes Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals for IPL 2024 Code breach

BCCI levies heavy fines on Rishabh Pant and Delhi Capitals for Code of Conduct violation in IPL 2024 clash with KKR

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed fines on Rishabh Pant, captain of the Delhi Capitals, and the entire team following their second consecutive slow over rate offense in IPL 2024. The incident occurred during their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Pant and Team fined

Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals' skipper, faced a hefty fine of ₹24 lakhs for his team's repeated failure to maintain the required over rate. Additionally, other members of the Delhi Capitals playing XI, including Impact Player Abishek Porel, were fined either ₹6 lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lesser.

According to the BCCI's official release, this marked the second over rate offense for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season, resulting in the substantial penalties. The board emphasized the importance of adhering to the IPL's Code of Conduct, especially regarding minimum over rate requirements.

Delhi Capitals' struggles continue

The Delhi Capitals' woes extended beyond disciplinary matters as they suffered a resounding defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite Rishabh Pant's valiant half-century, the Capitals failed to chase down KKR's imposing total, crumbling to 166 all out in 17.2 overs.

This loss marked the Capitals' third defeat in four matches, leaving them languishing at No.9 in the IPL 2024 points table with a dismal net run rate. Pant, addressing the media post-match, acknowledged the team's poor performance, attributing it to an off-day for the bowlers and a collective failure to execute their plans effectively.

Despite the setback, Pant maintained a positive outlook, emphasizing the team's commitment to aggressive cricket and the importance of collective effort. However, with mounting challenges and the pressure to perform, the Delhi Capitals face an uphill battle to regain momentum and climb up the IPL standings in the forthcoming matches.
