Bollywood Directors advocate for Biopics on Kargil War's unsung heroes

To celebrate the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Bollywood directors share their dream biopic subjects. They focus on the unsung heroes of the Kargil War who showed incredible courage and sacrifice. Here are their thoughts.

Sudipto Sen

Director Sudipto Sen wants to make a film about a nomad shepherd who warned the Indian Army about unusual terrorist movements at the Kargil border. Despite his efforts, his warnings were ignored, allowing terrorists and the Pakistani army to mobilize. Sen’s film would highlight the lives of common people in the high altitudes of Kashmir, the Sir Panjal range, and the Upper Shivalik zone. He believes in showcasing the unsung heroes who played crucial roles during the war.

Director Anil Sharma feels many Kargil heroes deserve biopics. He mentions Colonel Balwan Singh and Brigadier M P S Bajwa as key figures. Sharma believes every soldier who fought in Kargil has a hidden story worth telling. These stories, he says, are unknown to most people and deserve to be shared through films.

Amit Rai

Director Amit Rai wants to make a biopic on Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, one of the youngest and most precious lives from the Kargil War. Yadav, a retired officer, is still alive, and Rai is eager to tell his story. Rai thinks Aditya Rawal, Paresh Rawal’s son, would be perfect for the role of Yadav.
