Market opens in green with financial and metal stocks rising

Stock Market opens higher as financial services and metal stocks lead gains

The Indian stock market started positively on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Financial services and metal stocks performed well, pushing the market into the green. Investors were optimistic as key indices showed early gains.

At 9:20 AM IST, the BSE Sensex rose by 108.50 points (0.15%), reaching 74,710.62. Similarly, the NSE Nifty increased by 37.30 points (0.17%), reaching 22,584.85.

Among the 30 Sensex stocks, IndusInd Bank was the top gainer, rising by 1.96% to ₹1,054.00. Bajaj Finance followed with a 1.74% increase, trading at ₹8,640.10. Bajaj Finserv also gained 1.54%, reaching ₹1,904.75. A total of 13 Sensex stocks traded in the green.

Sectoral performance

Different sectors showed varied results. The Nifty Financial Services Ex-Bank Index performed the best, rising by 1.12% to 25,115.00. Other sectors like Nifty Metal and Nifty Midsmall Financial Services also saw gains of around 0.78%.

On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the stock market had closed lower. Sensex fell by 147.71 points (0.20%) to 74,602.12, while Nifty dropped 5.80 points (0.03%) to 22,547.55. Wednesday was a market holiday due to Mahashivratri.

Experts noted that Nifty declined for the sixth consecutive session. Akshay Chinchalkar from Axis Securities stated that while investors expected a limit to the downside, resistance remained strong. Support levels were between 22,370 and 22,500, while a close above 22,720 was needed for further gains.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers, selling stocks worth ₹3,529.10 crore. Meanwhile, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued to buy, investing ₹3,030.78 crore.

Akhil Puri, a financial expert, explained that rising US bond yields, a strong dollar, and a weaker Indian rupee made Indian stocks less attractive for foreign investors. Many FIIs shifted their investments to US and Chinese markets. He warned that continued FII selling could lower stock prices, weaken the rupee, and increase inflation.
