Centre approves ₹675 crore relief package for flood-hit Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura

The Indian government has approved the release of ₹675 crore to help the flood-affected states of Gujarat, Manipur, and Tripura. This funding will come from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and includes an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The release follows severe rainfall, floods, and landslides that affected these states during this year's Southwest Monsoon.

Gujarat will receive ₹600 crore, Manipur will get ₹50 crore, and Tripura will receive ₹25 crore as part of this assistance. The government plans to send Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to Bihar and West Bengal, which have also recently experienced flooding. These teams will assess the damage on the ground.

Wider impact of flooding

This year, various states, including Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, have been impacted by heavy rain and floods. The government has already dispatched IMCTs to assess damage in all affected states.

The central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is committed to providing all necessary support to these states. So far this year, the central government has released a total of ₹9,044.80 crore from the SDRF to 21 states, along with ₹4,528.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states, and ₹1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund to 11 states.

In addition to financial aid, the government has also provided logistical support. This includes deploying teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and support from the Army and Air Force to help the flood-hit areas. Further financial assistance will be determined after receiving reports from the IMCTs in the affected states.
