Central Government dispatches inter-ministerial team to Gujarat for flood damage assessment

The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a special team to assess the damage caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in Gujarat. This inter-ministerial central team, led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), will visit the worst-hit districts in the state. Their mission is to evaluate the situation on the ground and provide a detailed report on the extent of the damage.

Gujarat hit by severe rainfall

Between August 25 and 30, Gujarat experienced severe rainfall due to a deep depression over the state and nearby Rajasthan. This led to widespread flooding, especially in the Kutch district, where places like Mundra taluka recorded 26 mm of rainfall in just a few hours. Other areas, including Veraval, Dwarka, and Dantiwada, also faced significant rainfall, causing waterlogging and damage.

Amit Shah reviews situation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally reviewed the flood situation in his Gandhinagar constituency, one of the severely affected areas. He instructed local authorities to take immediate action to restore normal life, including draining floodwaters, cleaning roads, and spraying pesticides to prevent disease outbreaks. Although the rainfall decreased on Friday, many parts of Gujarat, especially Vadodara, remained waterlogged due to swollen rivers. Vadodara is slowly recovering as the water levels of the Vishwamitri river begin to recede.

Earlier this year, similar central teams were sent to other states, including Assam, Kerala, Mizoram, and Tripura, to assess damage caused by floods and landslides. The government is closely monitoring the situation in Gujarat and is ready to send more teams if needed.
