Chandigarh begins relief for stray animal attack victims

Chandigarh Administration starts disbursing relief to victims of stray animal attacks

The Chandigarh administration has started giving compensation to people affected by stray animal attacks. The committee responsible for this was formed in July 2024, following a high court order in August 2023 that required Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to create such committees. So far, 145 people have applied for relief.

Some victims have already received compensation. ₹5 lakh was given to the family of a person who died from a stray cattle incident, and ₹30,000 was given to someone bitten by stray dogs.

Application process simplified

To make it easier for victims, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will develop an online portal to apply for compensation. While this is being built, manual applications can be submitted at the MC office in Sector 17. The medical superintendent of Government Multi-Specialty Hospital will verify injury reports to speed up the process.
