Chandigarh records warmest day and coldest night of the month in unusual weather fluctuation

The weather in Chandigarh experienced a noticeable shift recently, with the maximum temperature rising and the minimum temperature dropping. On Friday, the maximum temperature reached 22.5°C, which is higher than usual for this time of year. This marks the warmest day since December 27, when it reached 23.4°C. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature fell to 5.8°C, making Thursday night the coldest of the month.

Temperature swings: warm days, chilly nights

The increase in maximum temperature is attributed to clear, sunny days, while the decrease in minimum temperature is due to cloudless nights. These conditions are expected to persist in the coming days, resulting in colder nights and warmer days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Factors influencing weather

IMD Chandigarh director AK Singh explained that the prevailing dry conditions contribute to these temperature fluctuations. Additionally, cold and chilly winds from the hills, coupled with snowfall in the region, are causing cold wave conditions in parts of Northern Punjab. Singh mentioned that rain is not expected in the upcoming week.
