Chandigarh hit by fog: flight groundings and train delays cause morning commute chaos

Fog disrupts transportation in Chandigarh: morning flights grounded, trains face delays

A thick blanket of fog descended over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Friday, causing widespread travel disruptions. Meteorological officials reported that visibility dropped to a mere 25 meters at 8:30 am, marking the second consecutive day of "very severe fog" in the region.

Flight chaos at Chandigarh Airport

Chandigarh airport faced significant challenges as no flights could take off or land until 9:50 am due to the dense fog. Several flights were affected, with 6E-681 to Pune, 6E-2159 to New Delhi, and 6E-6395 to Ahmedabad being canceled. Others, such as 6E-112 to Ahmedabad and 6E-7743 to Jaipur, were rescheduled to cope with the adverse weather conditions.

Train services also hit

The impact extended to train services, with the morning Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express experiencing an hour's delay. The Vande Bharat Express from Delhi reached Chandigarh 50 minutes behind schedule. The Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express faced a rescheduling, departing at 5:50 pm instead of the original 4:30 pm time.

The adverse weather conditions led to further cancellations, affecting flights to destinations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore on December 30. The situation remains challenging for travelers as fog persists, causing inconvenience in both air and rail travel across the region.
