Chandigarh: outgoing PU Students' Council Performance under review

As the term of the PU student council ends, it’s time to review their year. The council's standout achievement is successfully implementing a menstrual leave policy for students, starting this academic session. Council President Jatinder Singh highlighted this achievement, along with the council’s efforts to frame a constitution for future elections and establish a helpline for sexual harassment.

Unfulfilled promises and criticisms

Despite these successes, many promises from the council’s manifesto remain unmet. Issues like faculty recruitment, teaching experience certificates, a central placement cell, and transcripts with DMCs are still pending. Singh defended these delays, citing various challenges, including halted recruitments due to OBC reservation issues.

Critics from other parties, such as Divyansh Thakur of CYSS, argue that the council's efforts were mostly superficial and accused them of financial mismanagement. Allegations of embezzlement surfaced during the Jhankar fest, although Singh attributed this to election-related restrictions. Former ABVP president Rajat Puri criticized the council for its alleged corruption and said that the menstrual leave policy is not fully in effect yet, as it awaits senate approval.
