A female pedestrian, Nisha Garg, 44, is in critical condition after being struck by a car involved in a police chase near Dhanas on Saturday night. The car, driven by Maninder Singh of Khanna, was being pursued by Punjab Police all the way from Khanna, Ludhiana, following a tip-off from the health department regarding his alleged involvement in a crime.
The speeding car collided with an electricity pole before crashing into Nisha Garg, who was an innocent bystander and a resident of Dhanas. She is currently receiving treatment at PGIMER.
Details of the chase
In the car with the driver was a nurse, who served as an informant for both the police and health department. Fortunately, both of them sustained only minor injuries.
Moments before the collision, another passenger from the car had exited the vehicle near PGIMER. Observing this, the police detained the man. In response, Maninder attempted to evade the police by speeding towards Dhanas.
