Dense Fog disrupts flight operations at Chandigarh Airport

On Friday morning, thick fog and cold wave conditions severely impacted flight services at Chandigarh International Airport. Poor visibility caused delays for ten flights, affecting both arrivals and departures. Flights from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur arrived hours behind schedule, while departures to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, and Patna were also disrupted.

Arrivals affected

Five flights arrived significantly late due to the dense fog:

  • AI437 from Delhi: Scheduled for 7:00 AM, the flight landed at 11:14 AM.
  • Indigo 6E242 from Pune: Originally set to arrive at 7:55 AM, it landed at 10:09 AM.
  • AI619 from Mumbai: Scheduled for 8:20 AM, it reached at 9:39 AM.
  • Indigo 6E2316 from Delhi: Expected at 8:50 AM, the flight landed at 11:08 AM.
  • Indigo 6E7718 from Jaipur: The flight, set for 11:20 AM, arrived at 12:15 PM.

Passengers expressed frustration over the delays, as many had to reschedule connecting flights or adjust their plans.

Departures delayed

Flights departing from Chandigarh faced similar delays:

  • AI438 to Delhi: Scheduled for 7:40 AM, it departed at 12:02 PM.
  • AI620 to Mumbai: Originally planned for 9:00 AM, the flight left at 11:01 AM.
  • Indigo to Goa: Scheduled for 9:45 AM, it departed at 11:36 AM.
  • Indigo 6E328 to Bengaluru: Scheduled for 10:50 AM, the flight departed at 11:46 AM.
  • Indigo 6E6394 to Patna: Set for 11:30 AM, it took off at 12:17 PM.

Airport authorities worked diligently to manage the situation, ensuring safety remained the top priority. However, the persistent fog continued to challenge operations throughout the morning.

Passenger experiences

The delays inconvenienced hundreds of passengers, some of whom were traveling for critical purposes. Passengers reported long wait times and a lack of timely updates on flight statuses.
