Congress urges clarity on Canada, warns of 'Damaging Brand India'
Congress criticizes Centre for 'Damaging Brand India', urges clear stance on Canada issue
On Wednesday night, the Congress party expressed serious concerns about India's growing issues with Canada. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stated that allegations made by Canada against Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar are harming India's global reputation. He called on the Indian government to clarify its position on these serious claims.
In a post on X, Ramesh urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep the Leaders of Opposition in both Houses of Parliament informed about the allegations made against India by Canada and the USA. He noted that the deterioration of relations with Canada is worrying, especially in the context of India's ties with the US.
Recently, Canada suggested that Indian diplomats are involved in the investigation into Nijjar's murder, a claim that India has strongly denied. This situation escalated when India recalled its diplomats from Canada and expelled six Canadian diplomats from New Delhi.

Importance of a unified response
Ramesh emphasized that the allegations from Canada, now supported by other countries, are damaging India’s international standing and "Brand India." He believes it is vital for all parties to work together to safeguard India's global image, particularly in upholding the rule of law.
He stated, “Our nation’s international image as a country that believes in and adheres to the rule of law is at risk. It is crucial that we act together to defend it.” He pointed out that on issues of national security and foreign policy, unity is essential.
This statement follows comments from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who claimed there are clear indications that India violated Canada's sovereignty. India has dismissed these allegations as “absurd” and insists that Canada has not provided any evidence to support its claims. The ongoing tensions between India and Canada highlight the need for a coordinated response to protect India's reputation on the global stage.
