Escaped criminal evades Haryana Police custody in Kanpur

A criminal named Ashu Bajpai, who had been arrested in Delhi on July 29 in connection with a forgery case and subsequently lodged in Tihar jail, managed to escape from the custody of Haryana police while on remand in Kanpur's Naubasta. Bajpai's criminal activities extended to cyber-crime cases in Haryana, leading the police to take him into custody for investigation. His escape unfolded when he used a simple but effective ruse, taking advantage of a natural necessity to evade the police and flee.

Ashu Bajpai, a resident of Unnao, was in the custody of Haryana police, who had obtained a five-day custody remand for him from Tihar jail. The purpose of his custody was to assist in the investigation related to a case lodged at Fatehabad police station.

During his transfer from Tihar jail to Makhi in Unnao, the escape occurred. Bajpai seized the opportunity during a stop at Rajdhani hotel. He pleaded with the police to allow him to attend to a natural call of duty. Seizing this moment, he made his escape, disappearing from the scene.

Legal proceedings

Sub-inspector Govind Ram of the Haryana police promptly lodged an FIR against Ashu Bajpai following his escape. The FIR was registered at the Naubasta police station under the jurisdiction of SHO Jagdish Pandey. Bajpai's escape raised concerns and initiated a search operation to locate and apprehend him.

Ashu Bajpai has a history of criminal activities, particularly duping individuals under the pretense of securing them employment. He has accumulated a total of 12 cases lodged against him, reflecting a pattern of fraudulent behavior.
