Chandigarh Crafts Mela showcases the rich tapestry of India's diverse cultures, delighting visitors

Chandigarh came alive with vibrant cultural festivities as the 13th National Crafts Mela, organized by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) in collaboration with the Chandigarh administration, kicked off at Kalagram. The second day of the 10-day extravaganza showcased an array of folk songs and dances from states like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttrakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, and Rajasthan, providing a captivating glimpse into their rich cultural traditions.

Day 2 was highlighted by a musical treat featuring performances of folk songs and dances, adding a festive atmosphere to the event. Additionally, a special quiz focused on art and culture was held, with six students from government schools emerging as winners. The quiz, designed to be both entertaining and educational, will be a daily feature until December 10.

Craftsmanship on display

Craft artisans from various corners of the country showcased their skills, offering a diverse range of articles such as crockery, cutlery, fabrics, winter wear, jewelry, carpets, rugs, mats, footwear, designer suits, and sarees. The demand for intricately designed furniture, including sofa sets, dining sets, and beds, was particularly high.

Escape to rural-themed serenity

Visitors enjoyed spending quality time in the rural-themed setting, providing a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of city life. The fair promises more excitement, with singer Lakhwinder Wadali scheduled to entertain the audience with his tunes on Sunday evening. The event serves as a celebration of India's cultural diversity, bringing together art, music, and craftsmanship for a memorable experience.
