Delhi University Students' Union Election today; AAP’s student wing withdraws from contest

The Delhi High Court has allowed the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) election to take place on Friday, September 27, but with strict conditions. The court ruled that while the election can go ahead, the counting of votes and declaration of results must wait until all defaced public property on the campus is restored. This decision comes after the court expressed concern over the vandalism caused during campaign activities.

Court criticizes campaign spending

A bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela also raised concerns about the high costs spent by candidates on their campaigns, noting the lack of regulations. The court scheduled the next hearing for October 21. Previously, in 2019, a PIL sought a ban on the defacement of public property by DUSU candidates.

The election will see 1,40,000 students voting, with candidates from ABVP, NSUI, and AISA-SFI in the race.
