Farmer Leaders demand cremation following Punjab's FIR against Haryana Police

Following the tragic death of Shubh Karan Singh during clashes with Haryana Police at Khanauri border, farmer leaders have demanded justice before proceeding with his cremation. They insist that Punjab Police must file a case against the responsible Haryana Police officials.

Despite Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's announcement of compensation amounting to ₹1 crore and a government job for Shubh Karan's sister, his family and farmer leaders are adamant about not allowing the cremation until justice is served.

Justice before cremation

During a press conference at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher asserted that the post-mortem would not take place until Punjab Police registers an FIR against Haryana Police. The family emphasized that monetary compensation is secondary to the pursuit of justice.

While Punjab officials have expressed intent to register a case, jurisdictional issues between Punjab and Haryana complicate the matter. Haryana Police claim the incident occurred in their territory, making it challenging for Punjab Police to initiate legal proceedings.

Moving forward for justice

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, leading the farmer agitation, has declared a 'black day' to mourn Shubh Karan's death. They plan to continue their protests, including tractor marches and a massive gathering in Delhi, to press for their demands.

Despite the temporary halt in the Delhi Chalo march after the tragic incident, farmers remain steadfast in their demands, including legal assurance for minimum support price (MSP) and debt relief. They maintain their presence at Khanauri and Shambhu borders, committed to their cause until justice is served.
