Tragedy strikes as car fatally runs over migrant family under Bathinda Flyover in Punjab

In a heartbreaking incident early on Wednesday in Bathinda city, a car tragically ran over a migrant family sleeping under a flyover, resulting in the death of a one-year-old girl. The police report cited dense fog as a major factor, with the driver unable to see the roadside due to poor visibility.

Details of the mishap

The unfortunate incident occurred near the Rose Garden on the Bathinda-Patiala national highway. The victims, a family engaged in selling balloons in the garden, were sleeping on the pavement under the flyover when the accident took place. The one-year-old victim was identified as Nandini, while her 25-year-old mother Shivani and 75-year-old maternal grandmother Meera sustained injuries.

Driver's lack of familiarity and visibility challenges

According to Parminder Singh, the Station House Officer of Thermal police station, the driver, a resident of Gurdaspur, was not familiar with the city's roads. The preliminary investigation suggested that the vehicle hit the pavement due to poor visibility caused by the dense fog. Importantly, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
