Former Akali mayor, sitting MC join Congress in presence of CM Channi
Chandigarh, January 23: In a setback to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), former akali Mayor of Bathinda Municipal Corporation, Balwant Rai Nath and sitting councillor, Surush Chauhan and several Akali leaders have joined Congress in the presence of Chief Minister (CM) Charanjit Singh Channi here on Sunday.
CM Channi welcomed them into the party fold and said that their indiction would bolster the party base.
Hailing from a poor family, Nath, a popular Dalit leader said that he was impressed with the simplicity of CM Channi and the extraordinary welfare works he had done for Punjab and SC community in four months during his tenure as CM.
Nath, who has completed his five years as term mayor with simplicity, said that he was feeling suffocated in the Akali party due to their anti-farmers and anti-dalit policies.
Pertinently, despite serving five year as mayor Nath neither built his own house nor bought any car. He always lived a simple life and only owns a house of 60 yards on his name.
