Former Army chief joins BJP

Mr. Shekhawat and Punjab BJP leader Ashwani Sharma greeted the former General as a new member of their ranks. In 2018, the former army chief announced his departure from the Shiromani Akali Dal.

General Joginder Jaswant Singh (retd.) joined Badal’s party in 2017 and ran unsuccessfully against then-Congress leader Amarinder Singh in the Patiala Assembly elections that year. In 2005, the retired General, who has also served as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, was selected as the Army Chief for the first time.
