Georgia School Shooting claims lives of Autistic Teen and 'Amazing Husband' Math Teacher
On September 4, 2024, a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia resulted in four deaths. The victims were identified as math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie, and students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14. Nine other people were injured and taken to the hospital.
Victims remembered
Mason Schermerhorn, who had autism, was remembered fondly by his family. A GoFundMe page set up for him described his death as sudden and heartbreaking. His friend Abner Sanz said he was in disbelief when he first heard the news.

Christian Angulo was described by family members as "very sweet and so caring." His death also shocked his friends, who struggled to accept the reality of the situation.
Christina Irimie, 53, was known for her patience and care as a math teacher. Richard Aspinwall, 39, was a math teacher and an assistant football coach. He was described by students and colleagues as a dedicated teacher and a great coach. Aspinwall had previously worked at Mountain View High School and Dunwoody High School.
The shooter, 14-year-old Colt Gray, used an AR-15 style rifle and is in custody. He will be charged with murder as an adult.
