Mines Minister reviews working of department

Chandigarh, January 17: The State Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to providing sufficient sand and gravel to the people at reasonable prices and the officials of the mining department should ensure that this commitment is fulfilled.

It was stated by the Mines and Geology Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer today at Punjab Bhawan during a meeting held to review the functioning of the newly allotted department.

Meet Hayer said that he will continue to conduct review meetings of the  department. He further said that the department should ensure that the people get the required sand and gravel at reasonable prices. "Illegal mining will not be tolerated and no negligence will be tolerated in this matter", said the Minister.

During the meeting, Meet Hayer asked the department to submit a joint report on power connections with Powercom officials regarding all the crushers so as to take stock of the actual status of the closed crushers. He similarly directed to furnish report on daily basis regarding Q form of crushers.

The Minister also asked for timely completion of necessary formalities for environmental clearance regarding sand quarries. He ordered to prepare DSRs in time bound manner and emphasized that necessary steps should be taken to sell sand and gravel online.

The Secretary Gurkirat Kripal Singh, Director DPS Kharbanda, Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers and Field XENs were also present in the meeting.
