Haryana CM: 140,000 seniors to receive automated pensions

Haryana Chief Minister announces automated pension for 140,000 seniors

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a significant boost to the state's old age pension program. The income limit for eligibility has been raised from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh annually, aiming to provide assistance to a broader range of individuals.

Since May 2022, approximately 1.40 lakh elderly residents in Haryana have been receiving social security pensions in an automated manner, ensuring hassle-free access to financial support.

Seamless verification through Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP)

The state government integrated the old age pension program with Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) in 2022, streamlining the verification process for around 1.40 lakh elderly individuals. This innovative approach eliminated the need for seniors to visit government offices and submit extensive documentation.

As of now, Haryana's old age pension program benefits around 18.52 lakh senior citizens, disbursing ₹506 crore monthly to support their well-being. The PPP initiative has made it convenient for people to access these benefits from the comfort of their homes, reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

Expanding pension coverage

In addition to old age pensions, the state government offers similar benefits to widows, individuals battling severe illnesses, and persons with disabilities. An exciting development is the initiation of a monthly pension for widowers over 40 and unmarried men between 45 and 60. This expansion will extend the pension's reach to 30 lakh people in the state, enhancing social security for a more extensive section of the population.
