Haryana CM's motorcycle ride promotes "car-free" Tuesday

Haryana CM Khattar rides motorcycle for "car-free" Tuesday in Karnal

In a unique initiative to reduce vehicular emissions and promote eco-friendly transportation, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar rode a motorcycle to the airport in Karnal to mark "car-free" Tuesday. This effort came as part of Khattar's announcement on September 1 that every Tuesday would be observed as a "car-free" day in Karnal.
The video footage captured the chief minister riding a motorcycle along with his security team. Later in the video, he can be seen heading towards his helicopter at the airport. In a social media post, Khattar emphasized the importance of public cooperation in achieving goals like "Car Free Day" and making Haryana "Drug-free."

"I also made a small effort to reduce car traffic today by traveling to Karnal Airport by bike on 'Car Free Day.' I hope that the aware people of the state will take this message forward and inspire people to give up their cars 'just for one day,'" he added.

Support from officials and public

The first "car-free" Tuesday, observed on September 5, garnered significant support. Numerous officials from the Karnal administration extended their backing to the initiative by adopting eco-friendly modes of transportation. Karnal's deputy commissioner Anish Yadav and superintendent of police Shashank Kumar walked approximately 3 kilometers to their respective offices, while several employees chose bicycles for their commute.

Under this initiative, government officials are required to travel by bicycle on Tuesdays, and specific non-motorized zones have been identified where motorized vehicles are not permitted. Chief Minister Khattar had also pledged to ride a bicycle if he visited Karnal on a Tuesday, demonstrating his commitment to promoting sustainable transportation practices.
