Haryana's DGP initiates 'Safe City' pilot project for Women's safety

Haryana's Director General of Police (DGP), Shatrujeet Kapur, has announced a pioneering initiative called the 'Safe City' pilot project to enhance women's safety and security. The project will commence in Rohtak and Gurugram, with plans to expand it statewide after its success. The primary goal is to ensure that women can use public transport without fear, fostering a safe environment for their daily commute.

Enhancing public transport safety

The 'Safe City' initiative involves collaborative efforts with local cab unions, auto unions, and public transport providers. Together, they will work to create a secure public transport system, instilling confidence in women as they travel to work or other destinations. This coordinated approach aims to eradicate any hesitations women may have when using public transport.

CCTV cameras and security

To bolster security, the police will oversee the installation of CCTV cameras outside educational institutions. Additionally, security personnel will be deployed to these locations to ensure the safety of students and staff. The presence of surveillance and trained personnel will act as a deterrent to potential threats.

Increased police patrolling

Sensitive areas will witness heightened police patrolling to deter any untoward incidents. Immediate action will be taken upon receiving complaints of eve-teasing, and FIRs (First Information Reports) will be filed promptly. This proactive response is designed to create a safer environment for women.
