Haryana's Progressive Step: Ensuring Higher Education Access for Underprivileged Students
Universities to Offer Fee Support Based on Verified Data; Approval for Sports University Building Grant Also Granted
In Haryana, no financially disadvantaged child will be deprived of higher education, thanks to a new initiative. The State Government has decided that universities in Haryana will determine the category of annual income of underprivileged students based on verified data from Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP). The government will bear the fees of these students, ensuring they have access to higher education without financial burden.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Standing Finance Committee "C," chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who also serves as the Finance Minister. During the meeting, a grant of Rs 100 crore was approved for the building and construction of the Sports University of Haryana at Rai Sonipat.
The establishment of the Sports University of Haryana was previously announced by the Chief Minister in the budget speech for the year 2023-2024. The university aims to promote research and studies in various sports-related disciplines such as sports infrastructure, sports science, sports technology, sports management, sports nutrition, and sports education by adopting international best practices. The university is expected to start functioning in the year 2023-2024.
The Sports University of Haryana will offer regular courses in Ph.D., MSc, and BSc in Sports Science. Additionally, there is a proposal to introduce a 42-day fitness certificate course with 50 seats. The university will allocate 20 seats for MSc, 50 seats for BSc, and 5 seats for Ph.D. students.
This move is especially beneficial for the youth in Haryana who often resort to private agencies for physical training to prepare for recruitment in the army, para-military forces, and police. Such private training can be costly, while the university will offer similar courses at relatively lower fees.
Currently, Sports Universities are operating in various parts of the country, including Patiala, Imphal, Chennai, and Vadodara. With the establishment of the Sports University of Haryana, the state aims to provide affordable and quality sports education to its aspiring youth.
