Modi to visit Haryana on April 14, set to inaugurate Hisar Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana on April 14 to inaugurate the Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar and launch air services from the newly developed facility. Along with this, he will also lay the foundation stone for an 800-megawatt (MW) thermal power expansion unit at the Deenbandhu Chaudhary Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the visit on Monday, stating that this event is a significant step toward improving the state's infrastructure. The inauguration of the Hisar airport marks a major milestone in making Haryana a hub for aviation and industrial development.

Thermal power plant expansion

The new 800 MW thermal power unit in Yamunanagar is expected to strengthen Haryana’s power generation capacity. The Union Ministry of Power has approved this project as part of the expansion of the existing thermal power plant, which currently has two operational units of 300 MW each. The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) will oversee the construction, which is estimated to take around 52 months to complete at a cost of ₹7,272 crore.

According to government officials, Haryana currently has an installed power capacity of about 14,000 MW, of which 2,582 MW is produced by HPGCL. This expansion is aimed at ensuring a steady power supply to meet the growing demands of the state.

The Hisar airport is part of a larger integrated aviation hub, spread over 7,200 acres. Of this, 4,200 acres have been designated for airport operations, while 3,000 acres will be used for an integrated manufacturing cluster. The development of the airport is being carried out in three phases.

In the first phase, a terminal building was constructed at a cost of ₹50 crore. The second phase included the development of a 3,000-meter-long runway, which will allow Airbus aircraft carrying up to 180 passengers to operate from the airport. The third phase of development is expected to bring more aviation-related industries and facilities to the region, making Hisar an important center for air travel and trade.

The Prime Minister’s visit on April 14 coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and a state-level function will be held on this occasion. The exact venue of this event is yet to be decided.
