Woman standing by roadside killed in accident near Ramgarh flyover in Panchkula
A 60-year-old woman named Renu Bala died after being hit by a car near the Ramgarh flyover in Panchkula on Tuesday morning. The accident happened around 10:30 am. Renu Bala was a resident of Kot village, Panchkula.
According to the police, Renu Bala was standing by the roadside waiting for an auto-rickshaw. She had just come out of the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Ramgarh after withdrawing her pension money. She planned to go to Manimajra for shopping. While waiting, a speeding car hit her.
She was waiting for an auto
The car had a Haryana registration number. It was reportedly being driven without the driver honking or warning anyone nearby. The vehicle struck Renu Bala while she was still waiting for her auto.
Lovekesh, Renu Bala’s nephew, filed a police complaint about the incident. In his statement, he said that his aunt had gone to the bank in the morning to collect her pension. After finishing her work, she was standing by the roadside. That’s when the car hit her. He said he received a phone call from someone informing him about the accident.
Lovekesh also said that the driver of the car took Renu Bala to the hospital. However, the doctors declared her dead on arrival. After admitting her, the driver left the hospital and ran away. The police said that they are trying to find him and arrest him soon.
Following the complaint, the Chandimandir police registered a case under sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 281 deals with rash driving that may endanger human life. Section 106 refers to causing death by negligence.
The police sent the body of the deceased for a postmortem examination. After the autopsy, her body was handed over to her family. The family is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden and tragic incident.
Police officials said they are gathering information about the driver and the vehicle. Efforts are being made to trace his location using CCTV footage and the car’s registration number.
The accident has raised concerns about the safety of pedestrians in the area. People often wait for autos or buses by the roadside, but the traffic is fast-moving, and drivers don’t always slow down. Local residents said that this is not the first time an accident has occurred near the Ramgarh flyover. They have requested the administration to install speed breakers or traffic signs to reduce such incidents.
The incident also highlights the importance of responsible driving. Many times, drivers don’t sound the horn or reduce their speed while passing through busy areas. This negligence can cost lives, especially when elderly people are involved.
Renu Bala’s death is a sad reminder that road safety needs more attention. Drivers must follow rules strictly and be cautious while driving in public areas. Pedestrians, too, need safe spaces to wait for transport without being at risk of being hit by vehicles.
The local authorities said they will take up the matter seriously. They promised to improve road safety measures in the area. Police said they are working quickly to identify and arrest the driver who fled after the accident.
Meanwhile, Renu Bala’s family is in mourning. They said she was a kind and loving woman. Her death has left a huge gap in their lives. Her nephew said she had been looking forward to a simple shopping trip and had no idea that a tragedy was waiting for her.
The incident has also led to discussions about the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the old Indian Penal Code. This case is one of the first in the area where charges have been filed under the new law. The police said they are following all legal procedures and hope to bring the accused to justice soon.
As of now, the police have not shared further updates about the driver’s identity. The investigation is ongoing. Police have urged anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the car to come forward and help with the case.
Renu Bala’s death has left the local community in grief. Many neighbours and villagers visited her home to offer condolences. They remembered her as a cheerful and helpful person. The village sarpanch also expressed sorrow over the incident and said steps should be taken to prevent such accidents in the future.
Authorities are also considering putting up warning boards and improving lighting in accident-prone areas. Residents feel that more action is needed to protect those who travel on foot, especially near highways and flyovers.
For now, the focus remains on finding the accused driver and ensuring justice is served for Renu Bala. Her family hopes that strict punishment will be given to the person responsible for her death so that such careless driving is not repeated.
