Karanpur witnesses strong voter turnout at 81.38%, awaited results to shape political landscape

The Karanpur assembly election in Rajasthan witnessed a robust voter turnout, with more than 80 percent participation, as per officials. The BJP candidate, Minister Surendra Pal Singh, contested in the race. The polling, conducted peacefully from 7 am to 6 pm, recorded a turnout of 81.38 percent. The counting of votes is scheduled for January 8 at Bheemrao Ambedkar Government College, Sriganganagar.

Background and election details

Voting for 199 out of the 200 assembly seats in the state occurred on November 25, with the Karanpur election being delayed due to the unfortunate demise of Congress candidate and sitting MLA Gurmeet Singh Koonar. The Congress nominated Koonar's son, Rupinder Singh, to contest in his place.

Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta announced the final voting percentage in the Karanpur constituency and confirmed the presence of 2,40,826 voters, including 1,25,850 men, 1,14,966 women, and 10 transgender persons.

Surendra Pal Singh, already inducted into the Rajasthan ministry after the BJP secured 115 of the 199 seats in the assembly polls, faced criticism from the Congress, terming it a violation of the model code of conduct.
