Two men from Himachal Pradesh lost their lives in two separate road accidents in Mohali on Saturday. Both victims were pedestrians and were hit by speeding vehicles, police confirmed.
Accident in Mullanpur
One of the victims, Anees, a 32-year-old from Hamirpur, was visiting Mullanpur with his father, Ramesh Chand. The father and son had traveled to meet Chand’s daughter. The accident happened near the Phase-6 bus stand when a Maruti Suzuki Brezza, reportedly speeding, hit Anees.
The car, driven rashly, went on to break a road divider and then rammed into a roadside tree. Anees was rushed to a local civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The car’s driver fled the scene but left behind the vehicle's registration number, CH01-CP-6113, which Chand reported to the police.
Phase-1 police registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. The investigation to track the absconding driver is ongoing.

Accident in Kharar
The second accident took place near Amayra Greens in Kharar, where Vijay Kumar, a resident of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, was struck by a speeding Mahindra Thar. Vijay, who worked at a McDonald’s restaurant in Kharar, had been returning to work after meeting a friend.
The collision left Vijay with severe injuries. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh’s Sector 32, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police identified and arrested the driver of the Thar, Vinod Kumar, a resident of Kharar, based on a complaint filed by Vijay’s friend, Shishpal. A case was registered under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS at the City Kharar police station. However, the accused was later released on bail.
Both incidents have raised concerns about reckless driving in Mohali. Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging drivers to prioritize road safety to prevent such tragedies.
