Himachal to build new tourist sites with ₹2,400 crore, says Sukhu

Himachal government to develop new tourist spots with ₹2,400 crore investment: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a massive ₹2,400 crore project to boost tourism in the state. He said this plan will include the development of many new tourist destinations and building 200 new hotels. These hotels will range from 3-star to 7-star levels, and some will also focus on wellness, offering tourists both comfort and health-based experiences.

The CM made this announcement in Bilaspur on Friday. He also said the state will soon become the tourism capital of the country. Several other big projects were also revealed during the event. These included starting water sports at Kol Dam, opening a 110 KW rooftop solar power plant at the DC office, a new 'livelihood centre', and four special space labs.

Water tourism and job creation

Sukhu shared that water-based adventure tourism will now be a major attraction in Himachal Pradesh. The Gobind Sagar Lake area will be the main focus, where water sports like cruises, houseboats, jet skiing, motorboats, and water scooters will be offered. These exciting options will not only entertain tourists but also create many jobs for local youth.

The CM said that Govind Sagar Lake and other water bodies in Himachal Pradesh will be turned into hubs of water adventure. These steps are being taken to attract more tourists and also to help local people earn better incomes.

The state government believes that the tourism sector is the biggest source of income for Himachal. It brings in the highest share of GST (Goods and Services Tax) in the state. So, promoting tourism is now a top priority. Sukhu said that tourism helps people in many sectors, from transport to local shops and artisans. That is why the state is creating a strong and diverse tourism plan.

This tourism package will cover different kinds of travel interests. These include religious tourism (visiting temples and holy places), eco-tourism (enjoying nature), water tourism (sports and cruises), health tourism (spa and wellness), and nature tourism (mountains and forests). The aim is to attract all types of visitors—from within India and from abroad.

Special projects in religious and cultural places

The CM said the famous Shree Naina Devi Temple will also get a major upgrade. ₹100 crore will be spent to improve the facilities around this holy place to make it easier and more comfortable for pilgrims and tourists.

Besides this, ₹200 crore will be used to build a big convention centre in Dharamshala. This centre will be used for events, seminars, and tourism-based activities that can draw visitors and businesses alike.

These efforts are part of a bigger vision to turn Himachal into a top destination for tourists, not just in India, but globally. The state government wants to make sure that people visit Himachal not only for its beauty, but also for its new experiences like water sports, clean hotels, and rich culture.

In short, this ₹2,400 crore plan is meant to change the face of tourism in Himachal. It aims to bring more visitors, create more jobs, improve local incomes, and present the state as a complete tourist package with something for everyone.
