IAF's Trishul training exercise pauses for G20 summit security

High alert for fighter aircrafts including Rafale jets

The Indian Air Force's (IAF) Trishul training exercise, located near the borders with China and Pakistan, has temporarily halted its operations to ensure airspace security during the upcoming G20 summit. The IAF, including modern aircraft like the Rafale jets, will remain on high alert throughout the summit.

Major training exercise paused

The Trishul training exercise was a significant operation involving fighter aircraft fleets like Rafale, Mirage 2000, and Su-30MKIs. It also featured heavy-lift transport aircraft and helicopters such as the Chinooks and Apache. The Garud Special Forces actively participated in these drills. Initially scheduled from September 4 to 14, the exercise spanned various areas in the northern sector, including Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.

In anticipation of the G20 Summit, the training exercise was temporarily suspended. Surface-to-air missile systems were activated along the border areas with China and Pakistan. All stations in these regions were placed on high alert to ensure the summit's security.

Enhanced security measures

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has taken additional security measures in the national capital. They have deployed bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs to bolster security arrangements. Furthermore, the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) counter-drone systems have been strategically placed within the diplomatic enclave by security agencies. These advanced systems are designed to protect foreign dignitaries from potential drone threats. They have the capability to neutralize such threats from significant distances.
