If BJP gains power, Manipur would be turned into an ideal state

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, stated on Wednesday that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is elected to power, Manipur will be developed as an ideal state in the Northeast in the next five years.

During his first visit to the poll-bound state since the election dates were declared last month, Amit Shah spoke at a public meeting in Churachandpur district headquarters, 65 kilometers south of Imphal.

BJP candidates in Churachandpur district, as well as Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, were present at the public meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government, according to Amit Shah, will "absolutely work" for regional development.

BJP candidates in Churachandpur district, as well as Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, were present at the public meeting.

Expressing happiness over chief minister N Biren Singh-led government “ending the bandh and blockade and taking the state in the path of peace and development,” he said, “Being a footballer, Biren Singh knew how to score and save goals. So, he prevents bandh and others, and takes up connectivity, development and peace initiatives.”

He said, “The BJP wants to develop Manipur as the nation’s sports hub, he said. “Prime Minister Modi is dreaming of developing the state’s youngsters as Olympic medallists in the field of sports after they’re free from drugs and arms.”

He slammed the Congress, claiming that during the Congress administration, Manipur was known for the insurgency, blockade, and other acts. However, after the BJP took control, the state has become noted for its advancements in connectivity, infrastructure, sports, industry, and health.

He also claimed that in Congress-ruled states, there are three "I's": instability, insurgency, and inequality, whereas in BJP-ruled states, there are three "I's": innovation, infrastructure, and integration, and that PM Modi has also eliminated the demand for Inner Line Permits (ILPs) by handing out ILPs as gifts.

The home minister went door-to-door in Churachandpur prior to the public meeting.

Later, he spoke at a similar rally in Kangpokpi, 45 kilometers north of Imphal, and then went on to a campaign in Yaiskul, Imphal, where he met with BJP leaders.

“What is the union government doing to fulfil the demand of the people of Manipur to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act? This is a demand not only in Manipur but also in other states of Northeast,” he said, adding, “When O Ibobi Singh was the state chief minister, he was able to persuade the Union government to repeal AFSPA in the Imphal area,” Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh responded to Amit Shah's statement by saying.

Manipur's second round of voting will take place on March 5. The results of the election will be announced on March 10.
