IIT Madras tops NIRF rankings 2023, IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi follow close behind
The NIRF rankings for 2023 have been announced, with IIT Madras claiming the top spot. Following closely behind are IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi, as per the latest release by the Union Ministry of Education.
NIRF rankings overview
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, unveiled by Minister of State Education and External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, cover 12 categories this year. These rankings serve as a comprehensive assessment of educational institutions across India.
Continuing their legacy, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) maintain their stronghold in the engineering category of the NIRF Rankings 2023. IIT Madras leads the pack, followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay, showcasing their consistent excellence in engineering education.

Across different fields, top institutions have emerged, highlighting excellence in diverse areas. IIM Ahmedabad secures the top position in management education, with IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode following suit.
In the legal domain, NLU Bengaluru takes the lead, trailed by NLU Delhi and NALSAR Hyderabad. Similarly, in the medical sector, AIIMS Delhi retains its first-place position, with PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College Vellore securing second and third place, respectively.
Expanding scope and recognition
NIRF 2023 also introduces new categories to better represent the educational landscape. The addition of Agriculture and Allied Sectors category showcases institutions excelling in this field. Furthermore, the architecture category is now named Architecture and Planning, reflecting a broader scope of assessment.

These rankings not only recognize academic excellence but also serve as a benchmark for institutions to strive for continuous improvement in various aspects of education delivery and research.
