Incessant Rainfall in Himachal Pradesh Leads to School and College Closures
Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, the government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has made the decision to close all schools and colleges in the state on August 14th. The ongoing Post Graduate examinations, including B. Ed. exams, scheduled for the same day have also been cancelled by Himachal Pradesh University.
Rainfall Across India:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported substantial rainfall in various parts of India in recent days. The IMD has also predicted the likelihood of isolated, extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand over the next two days, followed by a decrease in rainfall.

Wide Impact of Rainfall:
Several regions including Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are expected to experience similar weather conditions. Northeast India can anticipate continued heavy rainfall for the next five days. Moreover, East and Central India are likely to witness increased rainfall activity starting from August 16.
IMD's Forecast:
The IMD's forecast indicates that Himachal Pradesh will experience light to moderate scattered rainfall on August 13th and 14th. Uttarakhand can expect such rainfall from the 13th to the 17th. Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive rainfall on the 13th and 14th, while East Uttar Pradesh should anticipate rainfall on August 13th, 2023.
