BJP faces criticism as India Bloc leaders predict ICU after Bypoll results

The INDIA bloc, consisting of various opposition parties, has emerged victorious in the recent assembly by-polls across seven states, winning 10 out of 13 seats. This electoral outcome has significantly impacted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which managed to secure only two seats, with an independent candidate winning one.

Opposition leaders' reactions

Prominent opposition leaders have hailed the INDIA bloc's success as a clear indication of the BJP's diminishing influence. Senior Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav highlighted the defeat of BJP candidates in regions historically significant to Hinduism, suggesting a backlash against the ruling party's strategies.

Congress leader Manoj Jha pointed out the narrow margins of BJP's victories, emphasizing that even these wins were hard-fought and indicative of shifting voter sentiments.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit viewed the by-poll results as a continuation of BJP's declining trajectory since the last Lok Sabha elections. He suggested that if elections were held shortly after, BJP's performance might have been even weaker.

The by-polls covered a diverse range of states, where parties like the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) fielded candidates. Notably, TMC swept all four seats in West Bengal, while Congress secured victories in Uttarakhand's two seats. AAP claimed the lone seat in Punjab, and DMK won in Tamil Nadu. BJP managed to secure one seat each in Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, while an independent candidate emerged victorious in Bihar.

The by-poll results have sparked discussions about BJP's electoral strategy and the evolving political landscape in various states.
