Notably, imports also experienced a decline of 17 percent, falling from USD 63.77 billion in July 2022 to USD 52.92 billion.

The figures for July have brought to light a substantial decrease in India's exports. The country's export earnings totaled USD 32.25 billion in July 2023, reflecting a drop of 15.88 percent compared to the earnings of USD 38.34 billion achieved in the corresponding month of the preceding year.

In tandem with the decline in exports, the imports also exhibited a noteworthy reduction. The data showed that imports for the month of July 2023 amounted to USD 52.92 billion, indicating a decrease of 17 percent from the USD 63.77 billion recorded in July 2022.

Cumulative Impact Over Months

The contraction in trade has extended its impact over a longer span of time. Over the course of the first four months of the current fiscal year (April to July 2023), the cumulative exports experienced a decline of 14.5 percent, amounting to USD 136.22 billion.
