India bowled West Indies out on 169

India wins the series 3-0, West Indies suffers a whitewash

India beat the West Indies by 96 runs to complete a historic first clean sweep of the opposition in one-day internationals. After electing to bat, the team bowled the Windies out for 169 after scoring 265 runs. India has now won 11 consecutive ODI series against the Windies. The visitors’ performance was disappointing from the start of their run chase, as they lost three wickets in the first five overs.

The hosts bowled out the Windies for 169 in 37.1 overs, defending a target of 266 runs. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj were in outstanding form for India’s bowling attack, both taking three wickets. Deepak Chahar and Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, both took two wickets.

India’s top-order did collapse, but Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant’s dominating partnership changed the game’s direction. Pant hit 56 runs off 54 deliveries, while Iyer slammed 80 runs off 111 balls. For the opposition, Jason Holder was in fine form, taking four wickets. Alzarri Joseph and Hayden Walsh, on the other hand, both took two dismissals.

After Mohammed Siraj gave India the early breakthrough by dismissing Shai Hope, Deepak Chahar took two wickets in his second over, removing Brandon King (14) and Shamarh Brooks (0). After that, Krishna dismissed Darren Bravo on 20 to break a key Windies stand before removing Jason Holder on 6. As the Windies fell further, Kuldeep Yadav, who had been out for over six months, dismissed Fabian Allen (0) and Nicholas Pooran (34). Alzarri Joseph (29) and Hayden Walsh (13) put on a solid 47-run stand, but the latter’s wicket ended the visitors’ chances of a comeback.

Rohit Sharma expressed his delight

“Definitely not looking at those numbers (captaincy record). Have ticked a lot of boxes in this series. Whatever we wanted to get out of this series, we pretty much got. Noise will be around as long as we’re playing. People look up to us, everybody watches us. As players, as individuals, we know what we need to focus on. Outside noise doesn’t bother the dressing room. Said it in the last game as well – never seen something like that in India (Prasidh’s spell). Good to have someone who can hit the deck and get that bounce. Although I didn’t feel like this was Indian conditions, it was good to see the fast bowlers actually. Was also impressed with Siraj. And then Shardul and Deepak did the job for us. Both Kuldeep and Chahal are crucial players for us. Especially Kuldeep. Chahal was very much in the plans and Kuldeep went off the radar. It was important to get him back slowly. Important to give them that confidence. We start expecting things earlier than expected, important to give them some cushion. Pretty sure we’ll see them together soon. That was the biggest takeaway for us – the middle order batting. Today was again a great game for the middle order. We were 40/3. For me that’s the biggest takeaway,” Rohit said.

What Indies captain had to say

“Must say congratulations to India. Way we bowled in the series was wonderful. Have a lot of work to day in 50 overs. Way the guys bowled in the last two games was fantastic. Have a lot of work to put in in the longer formats,” Nicolas Pooran said.

Man of the Series was awarded to Prasidh Krishna

“Now that I’ve been practicing a lot – played a few VH games as well – so there’s a lot of overs in me. Anything going to the keeper and to the slips – I love that. Quite nice to see the ball getting the carry. Glad that there are people behind who aren’t going to miss the opportunity. Ball flying to the keeper – something every fast bowler wants. The kind of guys we have in the team are very good, we’ve been learning off each other. Still being grounded that way. Been a team effort,” Krishna stated.

Prasidh Krishna took 9 wickets in 3 matches.

Both teams will now go to Kolkata for a three-match Twenty20 International series, which will begin on February 16.
