Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday, will be laid to rest with full military honours. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 11:45 am at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi.

Funeral arrangements announced

Dr. Singh, known for his significant contributions to India’s economy and leadership, breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on December 26, 2024, at 9:51 pm. In an official statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the government would accord a state funeral. The Ministry of Defence has been directed to make arrangements for the ceremony, ensuring full military honours.

The Home Affairs Ministry stated, "Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, passed away at 9:51 PM on December 26, 2024, at AIIMS Hospital, New Delhi. The funeral will take place on December 28, 2024, at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi. A State funeral with full military honours will be accorded."

Dr. Singh’s passing has led to nationwide mourning, with tributes pouring in from various quarters, highlighting his legacy as a statesman and an economist.

A legacy of Economic Reforms

Born on September 26, 1932, Dr. Manmohan Singh was a highly respected economist and a prominent leader in Indian politics. He served as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was instrumental in bringing economic reforms that transformed the country’s financial landscape.
