Sanjay Singh alleges BJP targeting wife’s voter registration

AAP MP Sanjay Singh accuses BJP of removing wife's name from voters list

AAP MP Sanjay Singh held a press conference on Sunday, accusing the BJP of attempting to remove his wife Anita Singh's name from the voter list in the New Delhi constituency. According to Singh, this is part of a larger campaign by the BJP to delete the names of Purvanchali voters from Delhi’s electoral rolls. Anita Singh, who hails from eastern Uttar Pradesh, represents a key voter group in the capital, where Purvanchalis make up a significant portion of the electorate.

Sanjay Singh alleged that two separate applications for deleting his wife's name were filed on December 24 and 26, targeting the New Delhi seat held by AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. "The BJP ran a campaign to teach me a lesson by targeting my wife's name in the voter list. They have applied twice in just two days to remove her name," Singh said. He suggested that these actions were retaliation for his vocal criticism of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha, where he raised concerns about voter deletions.

Kejriwal's 'Operation Lotus' allegations

Arvind Kejriwal also accused the BJP of orchestrating "Operation Lotus" in his constituency. He claimed that between December 15 and the end of the month, the BJP had manipulated the voter list by filing applications to delete 5,000 names and add 7,500 new voters. This, he alleged, amounted to tampering with nearly 12% of the constituency's total voters. "This is not an election; it’s a game being played with democracy," Kejriwal said.

Meanwhile, the BJP has alleged that the AAP is adding illegal voters, including Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, to the rolls. This accusation comes amid heightened tensions as both parties vie for support from Purvanchali voters, a critical demographic in Delhi’s upcoming elections. Kejriwal dismissed these allegations as baseless and accused the BJP of undermining fair electoral practices.

This controversy highlights the increasing political rivalry and the stakes involved in the battle for the national capital. Both parties have intensified efforts to secure voter trust, with accusations of manipulation and malpractices dominating the pre-election narrative.
