Kejriwal to meet Punjab CM, MLAs after Delhi setback

After Delhi setback, Kejriwal to meet Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, AAP MLAs amid tension

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs today. This meeting comes just days after AAP faced a major loss in the Delhi Assembly election. The party, which had ruled Delhi for ten years, won only 22 out of 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 seats.

Addressing internal party issues

Kejriwal’s meeting with Punjab leaders is crucial, as reports suggest there is growing dissatisfaction among AAP’s Punjab MLAs. Some members are reportedly unhappy with the leadership and may be considering other options. However, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang dismissed these claims, calling the meeting a “routine strategy session.” He emphasized that party leaders regularly meet to take feedback and discuss future plans.

Punjab is currently the only state where AAP is in power. In the 2022 Punjab elections, the party won a massive victory, securing 92 out of 117 seats. However, after the Delhi election defeat, some opposition leaders predict that AAP may also struggle in Punjab in the future. This makes today’s meeting even more important for the party’s future.

Kejriwal’s future role in Punjab

There is also speculation that Kejriwal might take a more active role in Punjab politics. Some reports suggest he could contest from the vacant Ludhiana Assembly seat and become a part of the Punjab government. If this happens, it would mark a major shift in AAP’s political strategy.

The Delhi election defeat has raised many questions about AAP’s leadership and direction. With Punjab being its last stronghold, Kejriwal and his team will need to take strong steps to maintain unity within the party and prepare for the next Punjab election in 2027.
