BJP faces 5 challenges in Delhi as new CM pick looms

5 key challenges for BJP as party selects New Delhi Chief Minister today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to announce Delhi’s new chief minister on Wednesday. The grand oath-taking ceremony is planned for February 20 at Ramlila Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and other dignitaries will attend the event. Around 40 celebrities have also been invited, and a large crowd is expected. The ceremony will take place around noon instead of 4:30 PM, as initially planned.

Key issues for the new Government

The new BJP government in Delhi will face several challenges, including:

  1. Fulfilling Election Promises: One of the main promises was providing ₹2,500 financial aid to eligible women by March 8, International Women’s Day. PM Modi personally assured voters that this would be delivered. The government must quickly set up an efficient distribution system to ensure this financial aid reaches beneficiaries on time. Another major promise was ₹21,000 assistance for pregnant women, which will require careful budget planning.

  2. Air Pollution: Delhi’s air quality is a serious problem, especially in winter. The government will need to work on solutions like increasing green cover, promoting electric vehicles, and improving waste management to tackle pollution effectively.

  3. Water and Electricity Issues: Many parts of Delhi face water shortages and irregular supply. Pollution in the Yamuna River has made the situation worse. The BJP had promised clean drinking water and uninterrupted electricity supply before the election, so the new government must ensure these services, especially in the summer months when demand is high.

  4. Law and Order: Women’s safety and street crimes remain a big concern. Strengthening policing and improving coordination with Delhi Police will be necessary to ensure better security in the city.

  5. Maintaining Welfare Schemes: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government became popular because of its welfare schemes, like free electricity, water, and better education in government schools. The BJP has also promised similar benefits in its manifesto, but the challenge will be to provide these services without affecting Delhi’s financial stability. Balancing welfare programs with responsible budgeting will be a key test for the new administration.
