Indian shooters shine at Asian Games 2023, secure Gold and Silver

India enjoyed a spectacular day at the Asian Games, with women shooters claiming top honors in two events. On Day 4 of the competition, Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan secured the gold medal in the women's 25m pistol team event, edging past China by three points. The Indian trio amassed a combined score of 1759 after excelling in the precision and rapid rounds. China secured the silver medal with a total score of 1756, while the South Korean team clinched the bronze with a combined score of 1742.

Individual brilliance

Manu Bhaker led the qualification round, concluding the rapid-fire series with 98 points. Her total score, including precision and rapid stages, stood at 590, with 28 inner 10s. Esha Singh secured fifth place with a score of 586, including 17 inner 10s. Both Manu and Esha advanced to the finals of the individual round, while Rhythm Sangwan, despite her exceptional performance, missed out on individual qualification, finishing 7th. Regulations allow only two shooters from one team to advance.

Historic achievement

In a thrilling achievement, India secured their fourth gold medal at the Hangzhou Games, elevating their overall medal tally to 16. This remarkable feat adds to India's victories in the 10m air rifle shooting men's team event, women's cricket, and the dressage team event in equestrian.

50m rifle 3 position event

Another Indian shooting trio, comprising Ashi Chouksey, Manini Koushik, and Sift Kaur Samra, displayed exceptional skill to clinch the silver medal in the women's 50m rifle 3 position event. The trio amassed a total of 1764 points during qualification, securing second place on the podium. Hosts China secured the gold with an aggregate score of 1773, while South Korea secured the bronze with 1756 points. Sift and Chouksey advanced to the finals, with Sift setting a new joint Asian record for qualifying with a score of 594.
