IOA President Usha seeks resolution of CEO issue with colleague Backing

IOA President Usha aims to resolve CEO issue, hopes for colleague support

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha is determined to address the vacant position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the organization. During the recent visit of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach to India for the IOC Session in Mumbai, he stressed the importance of filling the CEO role.

Usha's commitment to resolve the CEO issue

Usha, who assumed leadership of the IOA in December of the previous year, acknowledges the urgency of addressing this matter, especially with India's interest in bidding for the 2036 Olympics. The formal bidding process for hosting the Olympics falls under the IOA's responsibility.

She emphasized, "100%, we want to solve the CEO issue," and plans to initiate the advertising process for the CEO position. Usha hopes to garner support from her colleagues to expedite the resolution.

CEO vacancy raises concerns

The IOA has faced scrutiny over the prolonged CEO vacancy. Kalyan Chaubey currently serves as the acting CEO. While the IOA had previously advertised the position earlier this year, disagreements over the role's terms of reference within the executive council have caused delays.

The IOC has taken notice of this issue, but President Bach expressed confidence that the appointment would occur soon after discussions with Usha during the IOC Session.

Usha is committed to ensuring that the IOA's governance remains impeccable, especially as India contemplates bidding for the Olympics. She emphasizes the importance of transparent, proper governance and aims for the IOA to set a high standard for all sports federations in India.

The recent record-breaking performance of Indian athletes at the Asian Games has generated increased interest in the upcoming National Games, which will take place in Goa.

Usha expressed her aspiration to elevate the significance of the National Games and enhance their organization for the future.
