Challenges in space traffic management

Isro's report sheds light on the complexities of managing space traffic amid a surge in satellite launches. With over 1,37,565 close approach alerts received, Isro faces the task of navigating satellites safely in increasingly crowded orbits.

Despite the success of Isro's monitoring and coordination, challenges persist in regulating space traffic. The absence of a universal framework for space traffic management underscores the need for collaborative efforts among satellite operators to mitigate collision risks. Additionally, emerging space activities like mega constellations and space tourism pose new challenges, necessitating innovative approaches to ensure operational safety.

The report also highlights Isro's achievements in satellite re-entry and debris management. Eight Indian satellites successfully re-entered the atmosphere, demonstrating Isro's commitment to sustainable space practices. However, the presence of 52 fragments from the PSLV-C3 launch underscores the ongoing challenge of space debris mitigation.

Looking ahead, Isro remains dedicated to enhancing space safety and sustainability. By leveraging advanced monitoring techniques and international collaboration, Isro aims to navigate the complexities of space traffic management effectively.

Isro's efforts underscore the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding satellites and ensuring the sustainable exploration of space. As space activities continue to evolve, Isro remains at the forefront of pioneering initiatives aimed at enhancing space safety and security.
